The Health Protection Agency of Maldives has announced easements to tourists looking to stay at guesthouses at local islands in the country.
Tourists who have been fully vaccinated by completing two doses of a WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccine will be able to check-in at local island guesthouses, given that 14 days have passed since the administration of the second dose. Children who accompany such guests but are under the approved vaccination age will be able to check-in as well.
Furthermore, tourists who would like to check-in at local island guesthouses must carry proof of a negative PCR test taken no earlier than 72 hours prior to their arrival in the Maldives. Guests must also have a negative PCR test while checking out from the guesthouse.
Tourists who have not received two full doses of a WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccine will be able to check in at guesthouses in inhabited islands in the Maldives where 60% of the local population have received two full doses of the vaccine. Additional criteria for such guests stipulate that 95% of staff providing tourism services on the island must have received two full doses of the vaccine.
HPA states that 14 days must have passed since the administration of the final vaccination dose for it to be considered a full vaccination.
