The government of India has formalized air bubble arrangements with 24 countries until now and is in discussion with many other countries to resume international travel in 2021.
As per information shared by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, India is soon going to start an air bubble with Saudi Arabia and Singapore. India currently has formalized air bubble arrangements with the following 24 countries: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Iraq, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Maldives, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
Though India has a formal air bubble arrangement with the United Kingdom, it had to suspend flights to and from the UK until 31 December fearing a mutated coronavirus variant. The latest Saudi Arabia travel ban has not gone down well with many Indians living in the Southern part of the country.
Various flights from Jeddah and Riyadh to Hyderabad and Chennai were canceled due to the suspension of flights. Air India halted all its flights to and from the Kingdom which is likely to extend the ban until January 1st week. Meanwhile, Singapore is looking to open a new segregated travel lane for a limited number of business travelers as part of its efforts to revive international travel.”
The first travelers will be able to arrive in the second week of January through the new lane that shall allow for short travel stays,” as mentioned in an official statement released by the Singapore government. In an order recently passed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA), the Government of India has extended the suspension of international flights until December 31.
The notification titled ‘Travel and Visa restrictions related to COVID-19’ said, “In partial modification of circular dated 26-06-2020, the competent authority has further extended the validity of a circular issued on the subject cited above regarding Scheduled International commercial passenger services to/from India till 2359 hrs. IST on 31St December 2020. However, this means that all cargo operations will be allowed to function normally, and the Air Bubble pact is to be continued as per arrangements.
