World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has authorized the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) to offer ‘Safe Travel’ stamps to eligible member tour operators. To get the coveted stamp, operators have to meet the safety protocol framework and guidelines given by the Council.

Along with the role of an ambassador, IATO is also the second industry association in India to get the authorization to issue the ‘Safe Travel’ stamp. Earlier, the Association of Tourism Trade Organisations India (ATTOI) had received the authorization.

As per a circular by IATO, members, who are ready to comply with the global protocols and other terms and conditions, will be accorded the ‘Safe Travel’ stamp. Interested organizations should have cleared all dues to the organization to be considered for the stamp.“We have given the details of the documents required for the stamp in our circular.

Members who fulfill the requirements will be offered the stamp,” said Rajiv Mehra, Vice President of IATO. The associations can pass the Safe Travel stamp only to their members who comply with the Safe Travel protocols, said a WTTC source in India. As of now, no other association has approached the global body for Safe Travel Stamp, he said.

Meanwhile, an ATTOI source said that other than the initial inquiry, there hasn’t been much traction for the Safe Travel stamp among members. And, with the current uncertainties related to international inbound travel to India, it is unlikely that such certifications will gain traction, he added.
